Population
As of the 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN), the Province of Masbate has a total population of 910,813, an increase of 1,893 persons from the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (908,920). The province recorded an average annual population growth rate of 0.05 percent, reflecting a relatively stable population over the past four years.
Masbate is composed of one component city (Masbate City) and 20 municipalities, with Masbate City remaining the most populous local government unit, followed by Aroroy and Cawayan. Batuan has the smallest population among the province's municipalities.
Language and Culture
The province is home to a culturally diverse population. Masbateño (Minasbate) is the predominant language spoken throughout the province. Due to Masbate's strategic location between Luzon and the Visayas, many residents also speak Hiligaynon, Cebuano, Waray, Bikol, Filipino, and English, reflecting the province's unique blend of Bicolano and Visayan heritage.
Livelihood
Agriculture remains the backbone of the provincial economy, with farming, livestock production, and fisheries providing employment and income for many households. Masbate is widely recognized as the Cattle Capital of the Philippines, while coconut, corn, rice, fishing, trade, services, and tourism also contribute significantly to local economic development.
