The Persons with Disability Affairs Office of the Provincial Government of Masbate conducted a Basic Filipino Sign Language Training on July 21–22, 2026, as part of the celebration of the 48th National Disability Rights Week.

The Provincial Planning and Development Office was one of the participating offices in the two-day activity. The training aimed to enhance the knowledge and communication skills of government personnel in effectively interacting with members of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

Through lectures, demonstrations, and practical exercises, the participants learned basic Filipino Sign Language, including commonly used signs, greetings, expressions, and appropriate communication techniques.

The activity emphasized the importance of promoting inclusive and accessible government services while strengthening awareness, understanding, and respect for the rights, needs, and capabilities of persons with disabilities.

The participation of the Provincial Planning and Development Office reflects its continued support for the efforts of the Provincial Government of Masbate to advance disability inclusion, equal participation, and responsive public service for all Masbateños.

The Provincial Government of Masbate, through the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), participated in the I-PLAN PSO-RPCOs-PPMIUs Mid-Year Coordination and Planning Workshop held on July 13–17, 2026, in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro.

Representing the province was Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Atty. Roberto S. Leyco, Ar., EnP., who also serves as the Provincial Project Management and Implementing Unit I-PLAN Component Head.

The activity was organized by the I-PLAN Component of the Department of Agriculture–Philippine Rural Development Project Project Support Office South Luzon. It aimed to assess the mid-year performance of the participating offices and strengthen coordination among the Project Support Office, Regional Project Coordination Offices, and Provincial Project Management and Implementing Units.

During the workshop, participating provinces presented their first-semester accomplishments and implementation status updates. The activity also provided a venue for identifying implementation concerns, sharing good practices, discussing possible solutions, and developing appropriate strategies to ensure the timely and effective implementation of I-PLAN programs and activities.

The participation of the Provincial Government of Masbate reflects its continued commitment to strengthening agricultural and rural development planning, enhancing coordination with partner agencies, and aligning the province’s priority programs and investments with the objectives of the Department of Agriculture–Philippine Rural Development Project.

The Provincial Land Use Committee (PLUC) of the Province of Masbate conducted a meeting on July 8, 2026. During the meeting, the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) of the Municipality of Mandaon underwent cursory review and was approved by the PLUC members. Meanwhile, the CLUP of the Municipality of San Fernando was presented for the first time to the PLUC members for intial review. Other related matters were also discussed during the meeting.

The Provincial Project Management and Implementing Unit (PPMIU) of the Province of Masbate, through its designated staff, participated in the FY 2026 RPCO 5–PMIU Mid-Year Assessment and SIDLAN Encoding Workshop organized by the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) Regional Project Coordination Office V.

The activity was held from June 29 to July 1, 2026 at the Summit Resort and Sports Hub in Canaman, Camarines Sur.

The workshop primarily focused on the mid-year assessment of project implementation performance, including the review of physical and financial accomplishments of PRDP subprojects across the Bicol Region. It also provided a venue for the discussion of implementation updates, challenges, and strategies in the delivery of rural infrastructure and enterprise development interventions under the program.

A key component of the activity was the SIDLAN Encoding Workshop, which aimed to enhance the technical capacity of participants in encoding, updating, and managing project data within the PRDP monitoring system. This is essential in ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable reporting of project status and accomplishments.

Representing the Province of Masbate were the PPMIU staff, who attended the activity upon the designation of Atty. Roberto Leyco, PPMIU and I-PLAN Component Head.

The Provincial Government of Masbate continues to support capacity-building initiatives and technical engagements that strengthen project monitoring, evaluation, and implementation efficiency under the PRDP.

A successful Dragon Boat Competition was held on June 23, 2026, at Masbate Lagoon, Brgy. Matayum, Cataingan, Masbate.
The event was organized by the LGU Cataingan and the Provincial Government of Masbate, through the Vice Governor’s Office and the Provincial Planning and Development Office, with the games handled by the PYROS Dragon Boat Team headed by Engr. Roel Estrella. Seven teams participated in the competition, composed of five adult teams and two youth teams. The events included the Dragon Boat Marathon, 200-Meter Dragon Boat Race, and Dragon Boat Tug of War.

Competition Results

In the Dragon Boat Marathon, Team Sauro won 1st place, followed by Team Pirates in 2nd place and Team GTSB in 3rd place.
In the 200-Meter Dragon Boat Race, Team Pirates finished 1st, Team Sauro placed 2nd, Team GTSB placed 3rd, and Team Gutusan placed 4th.
For the Dragon Boat Tug of War – Adult Category, Team Sauro won 1st place while Team Palaka placed 2nd. In the Youth Category, Team GTSB won 1st place and Team Gutusan placed 2nd.
The activity highlighted the growing interest in dragon boat racing in the Province of Masbate.

As part of the continuing implementation of the CY 2026 Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) Assessment, the Provincial Comprehensive Development Plan Technical Assessment Committee (CDP-TAC) convened on May 26, 2026, at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), 2nd Floor, Masbate City, to conduct the technical assessment of the submitted Comprehensive Development Plans of the Municipality of Batuan, the City of Masbate, and the Municipality of Mobo.

The Provincial Government of Masbate, through the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), successfully conducted the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) Orientation and Assessment for CY 2026 on May 18, 2026, at Bams Restaurant, Boulevard, Masbate City.

The activity commenced with a Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) Orientation led by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), which provided participants with updates on the CDP formulation and assessment process in accordance with DILG Memorandum Circular Nos. 2018-172 and 2021-037. The orientation underscored the importance of developing comprehensive, responsive, and sustainable local development plans that are aligned with national planning standards and promote evidence-based governance.

Following the orientation, the Provincial Comprehensive Development Plan Technical Assessment Committee (CDP-TAC) conducted the technical assessment of the submitted Comprehensive Development Plans of the Municipality of San Jacinto and the Municipality of Cataingan to ensure alignment with the Provincial Development and Physical Framework Plan (PDPFP) and the Provincial Development Investment Program (PDIP), while strengthening compliance with prescribed planning standards.

The activity reflects the Province of Masbate's continuing commitment to strengthening local development planning by ensuring that local Comprehensive Development Plans are responsive, technically sound, and aligned with provincial and national development priorities.
